We decided to get creative in our announcements. Since our parents are avid coffee drinkers, we decided to write the announcement on a mug. The mug starts off black in color, but fades when hot water is poured into it. Underneath, is a poem that reads below:
Dear Grandma and Grandpa,
I don not have a face to see, or put inside a frame. I do not have soft cheeks to kiss, I don't yet have a name.
Not yet can you hold my tiny hands, nor whisper in my ear. It's still too soon to sing a song, or cuddle me so near.
But all that will change this May, when they say I am due. I am your newest grandchild, and I can't wait until I meet you.
All I ask between now and then is your love for me to grow. I promise I'll be worth the wait, just think of all the joy we'll know!
So as your waiting patiently, please pray lots of prayer for me. I cannot wait to be a part of this wonderful family!
We took my parents out the night before Jarred and I had to travel to St. Louis (where Jarred's from) for Thanks Giving. We had a lovely dinner and the waitress did a great job participating with our charade. It took my parents a while to understand what was going on because they couldn't read the poem. The lighting was dim and the font was too small on the mug. Overall, they were excited to be grandparents.
We told Jarred's family the Wednesday before Thanks Giving when Jessica (Jarred's sister) got into town. We did the same routine with the mugs and they were crying for joy!
To Our Friends:
I made plans with my different groups of friends and gave them the same poem written on cute announcement cards...ofcourse I modified it to say "mommy's friend" instead of grandma/grandpa. Jarred, like a typical guy just told his friends in person/phone/email!
